Fun In The Sun

Last weekend was opening day at the water park. Susu was complaining of her ear hurting and it was draining, though, so we held her off for week. See, when your kid is three, you can do things like that because they can't look at a calendar and say, "Nuh-uh! The last weekend in May is today!" We spent Saturday picking up stuff in the living room to get ready for the new floors. Okay, that's a lie! Steve spent Saturday picking up. I scrapped and cleaned off my desk....So, yesterday morning we asked Susu if she wanted to go to the water park. After her enthusiastic response, we loaded up and headed down there. When I was a kid, I can remember chanting, "Hi, Frostee Freeze! Hi, Frostee Freeze!" all the way to the local ice cream shop, hoping to entice Daddy into stopping. Susu is evidently following in my footsteps. For a good bit of the drive, she kept shouting, "Water Park - here I come!" Once we got there, we bought season tickets. We figure we have to go four times in the next three months to justify their cost - considering Susu's addiction to the park, that shouldn't be a problem! Last year, we went a few times and Susu pretty much kept to the little kids section and the lazy river, where she insisted on "swimming" - with one of us holding the back of her bathing suit. It was anything but "lazy" for us! In the bigger kids section, there are a couple of junior water slides and Susu always eyed them with a sense of wonder, but when we'd ask her if she wanted to go down them, she'd just shake her head and her eyes would get huge. Yesterday, we'd been there a couple of hours. Mae Mae and I were hanging out on a chaise lounge (she was asleep on my chest) when Steve came over and said that Susu wanted to go down one of the big kids' slides and could I come at catch her at the end so he could go up to the top of it with her. He leaned in close to me and said, "I don't really think she'll do it. Once she gets to the top, she'll probably change her mind." So, he carried her up to the top of the slide with her head buried in his neck, like we were torturing her. I waited at the bottom for several minutes and watched as other kids came down. Finally, I saw Steve stand up at the top and realized that Susu wasn't with him. "Here she comes!" he yelled. And there she was, swooping down the slide feet first on her belly. She came around the last corner, all knees and elbows, stood up, turned around, and ran down the last bit of the tube, a smile as big as Texas lighting up her face. "I want to do that again!" and took off to find her Daddy. I can't believe that she's old enough and brave enough to ride the big kid slide! She's already talking about how she's going to take Ruby and Emmie down the slide, but they need to keep their eyes closed like she does so they don't get "splashes in they eyes". That's my girl!

Now, Mae Mae? She's not too fond of the water park. More particularly, she's not too fond of the water and random people splashing water all over her face. She's more a sit on the sidelines and take in the view kind of girl. Here's where she was the happiest the whole day!
