Playing Hooky (Zoo Camp, Day Four)

After Wednesday's everyone-wearing-their-emotions-on-their-sleeves day, Sister and I asked the girls how they would feel about spending Thursday at home and missing the day of zoo camp.  The idea was met with hoots and hollers and a chorus of "yea!"  so we decided to let them play hooky from their fourth day.  The plan was to pack a picnic lunch, pick up some doughnuts for snack, walk the nature trail, play for a while in the water park and then meet Sister and head to Red Robin for dinner.  Well, apparently, I took the playing hooky idea too far and I spent a bit too much time procrastinating on Thursday morning.  The girls, after a reasonably decent night of sleep, were playing well together, so I took the time to play with some pictures and do a little bit of work.  Before I knew it, it was almost noon and I hadn't even started to get the girls ready or pack a lunch.  Grandmommy suggested we just pick up Chick-Fil-A.  That sounded like a plan to me, so we go the girls dressed and headed out about an hour later.  We made a quick run into the doughnut shop - yum, yum!

After we picked out a few treats for snack-time, we picked up Chick-Fil-A for our picnic.  Then, we headed to the park, got everyone unloaded and fed.  We were all ready for our walk on the Nature Trail and some time in the Water Sprayers.  I took the girls to the bathroom and as we were heading back to the picnic table, wouldn't you know it?  A big, ominous thundercloud started to move in our direction.  Just before we got to the table, I saw a streak of lightning, so we loaded everyone back up in the car to wait it out.  Summer thunderstorms are supposed to move in and out quickly, right?  Aren't they?  Well, apparently, this storm wasn't going to follow the rules.  We waited about an hour and the lightning never stopped, so we just hung out in the car until Sister met us.  We decided that we'd come back on Friday after zoo camp to play in the Water Sprayers and that we'd head on to dinner at
Red Robin.  I love Red Robin - I really wish we had one here!  We had to sit in the vans there for a few minutes because a deluge came up, but we managed to get the kids, at least, inside without getting soaked.    And we had a good dinner, even though the power flickered at least once because of the storm.  And, of course, it wouldn't be a day without some kind of drama caused by one of the kids.  Gracie decided she DID NOT like the Red Robin character who came around to the tables.  Here are some pictures:
