Laptops and Air Conditioners
You know my favorite thing about having kids is taking them to Wal-Mart and having them run up and down the aisles (separate aisles, too, so I can't catch them in one fell swoop), shrieking at the top of their lungs, while customers and employees alike look at me with either disdain or pity, or both. No, wait....that's not favorite thing about having kids, that's one of my least favorite things! Honestly, one of my favorite things about the girls is watching their language skills develop - you just never know what they're going to say....
Last week, Gracie had some tangles in her hair and I was trying to get them out with just the brush because I was feeling a bit too lazy to get up and walk the fifteen feet to the bathroom and get the stuff we use to help get the tangles out. She said, "Mama, we need to go and get the Air Conditioner!" I giggled and got up and got it for her. Her's her Air Conditioner:

(Just as a side note - Sister told me about this stuff earlier this year - it is AWESOME! It helps even on the worst of Gracie's hair tangles - like when I try and do a herringbone braid in her hair and Steve tries to take it out while I'm at the store and the result looks like a nest for a rat...those kind of tangles...)
So, that was Gracie's malapropism for the day. Here's Abigail language funny for the week.
Last Tuesday, we were up early. I was sitting at the computer, working and holding her. I was working on the desktop but I had my laptop computer open, since I was transferring files from one to the other. Abigail looks at me and says, "Laptop, Mama! Laptop!" I giggled and thought it was so funny that she was talking about computers and she's not even two! That's my girl! The rest of the week, she continued to say laptop at various times. Steve said she kept saying it to him while they were waiting for me in the doctor's office on Wednesday afternoon. She kept saying, "Laptop, Daddy! Laptop, Daddy!". He said he was puzzled because there was no computer around. I told him she probably just likes saying the word - who can figure out the mind of a 23-month-old? On Thursday night, we were all sitting in the living room. I was on the couch and Abigail came over to me and said, "Laptop, Mama! U wan (I want) Laptop!" I told her no, she couldn't have my laptop (it was in the other room, so I wasn't sure where this was coming from). "Laptop, mama, Laptop, Mama,,,,peeeessseee!" and her little eyes started to look so sad. She started patting the top of my legs, "Laptop, Mama! Laptop!" And I had a Eureka moment! Laptop for Abigail doesn't mean a little computer at all. Laptop is the top of my of lap....literally lap top! All she wanted was to sit in my lap. Finally, it all made sense - when we were sitting at my desk and I thought she was talking about the laptop computer, she was actually telling me that she was sitting in my lap and in the doctor's office, she wasn't telling Steve about an invisible computer, she was asking to sit in his lap. Sometimes, I really do feel like I need a translator!
Here's a couple of pictures that have nothing to do with this post, except that I used my laptop, sitting in the air conditioning, to put them on the blog
They're from one of our walks last week...

I love the Air Conditioner! (Seriously, I've been using the exact same stuff on my daughter's hair for the past 18 months & it works!) You need to do a page of Gracie-isms and Abbie-isms. I did a page years ago of Kristen's Kristenisms. (Example: Washing tunnel = drive thru car wash; raindrop jacket = raincoat). Now she speaks more or less proper English, and I really miss those Kristenisms! Just a thought for another page or 2!
P.S. I am enjoying your renewed zeal for blogging and your beautiful pictures.
