A Season of Sparkle
Is it just me, or do you notice a lot more glitter at Christmas? I love glitter and when I wandered down the craft aisle in Wal-Mart and saw the crazy array of white glitter (there was mica flake, snow, crystal fine, crystal coarse, carrara marble, carrara marble coarse and then plain old white glitter - can you tell I got a sample pack?), my heart was just a-twitter with glitter! Just looking at the stuff on my kitchen table makes me happy! Gracie shares my affection for glitter so I've been trying to find crafts that use it. So, yesterday we made snow globes using baby food jars, baby oil, tiny Christmas ornaments and you guessed it: glitter! You know how things go with a 2-year-old and a 4-year-old and let's just say that the snow globes didn't turn out perfect. Abigail spilled half of a bottle of baby oil on the kitchen table, more glitter ended up on the floor than in the globes (which is saying a lot, because there was A LOT of glitter in the snow globes), and I had trouble getting the lids back on straight, so the things leak. And, the teeny tiny ornaments that I thought would be perfect ended up being too teeny tiny...if you do this, make sure you get something that's at least 2 inches tall for the bottom of your snow globe, or it will be obscured by the glitter. But, here's the important thing: we had fun and we learned some important lesson: less baby oil, more glitter, and bigger oranaments. Next time, we'll do better! Here's a picture of Gracie holding hers. Don't strain your eyes looking for the object in the snow globe - you'll never find it!

Who needs an ornament when you have all of that gorgeous glitter?
