A Season of Blessings
Well, Abigail has a double ear infection. I'm so glad I went ahead and took her to the doctor. After two doses of antibiotic, she's already starting to bounce back to her impish self. The pediatrician gave us ear-numbing drops to help with her ear pain, and they worked like liquid magic. As well they should, since they cost $210.00!!!! Yes, you read that right $210.00. Luckily, our co-pay was only $60.00. Only $60.00
Two years ago when Gracie had a running prescription for them, our co-pay was $10.00. Evidently, they've reformulated the presciption so there is no longer a generic version. But, like Steve said, if they help Abigail feel better, we'll pay whatever we have to. It was still a bit of a sticker shock! Luckily, her antibiotics were only $12.00. I say that because we had to fill that prescription twice. You see, in my infinite wisdom, I told the pediatrician that Abigail would be fine taking chewable antibiotics. My only defense is that I was functioning on 45-minutes of sleep from the night before and I was simply too exhausted to make a rational decision. Once we got the pills home, I tried everything I could think of to get her to take them. I put them in candy; I put them in cheese; I crushed them and tried stuffing them down her throat (yeah, that will surely get me nominated for mother of the year). She spit ever last attempt that I made out. I knew I couldn't handle that twice a day for seven days, so I admitted defeat and called the pediatrician and asked them to rewrite the prescription for her. We are blessed to have insurance that will at least help cover the cost of doctors' visits and medicines. We are also incredibly blessed that this is the first time in well over a year that either girl has had to take and antibiotic. I often take their good health for granted and I need to remember what an incredible gift it is.
I sometimes become so overwhelmed by my abundant blessings that I forget to appreciate them. So I'm taking to the time to do that today! I am blessed beyond words by the amazing people that fill my life with joy: my church, my family, my friends, both near and far, my co-workers (do I actually have co-workers since I'm self-employed and work at home? - well, I work with them on projects, so I'm going to call them co-workers), the people who allow me to photograph their children and their families.
I am blessed to have a husband who loves me in spite of my faults and who takes care of my heart and soul and spirit in an amazing way. I can not imagine walking this crazy path of life without him. And, of course, my sweet baby girls - where would I be without them? This is my fifth Christmas as a mommy and sometimes I still shake my head and pinch myself and remind myself that these two amazing, exasperating gifts are mine!
Merry Christmas from all of us to all of you!
