Gathering

If there's one sewing technique I really can't stand, it's gathering.  Putting a zipper in - no problem....buttonholes...those are actually kind of fun...I don't even mind darts and pleats, but gathering...well, let's just say I'd rather go a couple of rounds with Abigail throwing a temper tantrum.  Now, it's not that gathering is technically difficult...it's actually fairly simple, but I just have trouble with it and always end up messing it up.  Then, why would I ever sew anything that requires gathering?  Well, here's why....it looks so darn cute!

I made these skirts for the girls to wear to an Easter festival at Steve's work.  They had so much fun!  And it was worth all the gathering when a lady walked up to me and asked where I bought their outfits because she wanted to buy her granddaughter one.

These outfits ended up being their Easter Sunday dresses, mostly because I didn't finish their Easter Sunday dresses...probably because they have gathered sleeves

I think next time I make these skirts, I'll make Gracie's shorter.  I liked the length on Abigail's a lot better.  I like the little tiered skirts so much that I went the next day and got a pattern like theirs for me.  I'm not sure mine will be as cute as though!
