Sometimes, She Takes My Breath Away
Gracie woke up Saturday morning with one request:
"Mama, can you take me to the beach today and take my pictures?"
She hasn't always shown such an interest in having her picture taken. Actually, it's a fairly recent phenomenon. A couple of months ago, she was sitting with me when I was editing these pictures and her fascination was sparked. She's been mentioning wanting to go the beach for pictures on and off again since then. Saturday morning, though, she was very persistent. So, I agreed. We had to go to the mall to pick up a few things for Steve's high school reunion next weekend and when I was in Belk's looking for some school clothes for Gracie, I saw they had all their girls' sundresses on clearance so I picked up one or two (or five
) for Gracie & Abigail. When we got home, Gracie reminded me about our photography field trip to the beach. She also reminded Abigail, "And Abigail - you're not going.. it's just Mommy & me....this is my photo shoot...you stay home with Daddy." Abigail wasn't originally thrilled with this idea, but Steve bribed her with a twilight swim so she was easily appeased.
Gracie & I headed over to my usual photo session location about 7:00 p.m. I really wasn't sure what to expect from her. I was fairly certain she'd put up with me taking her picture for about two seconds and then she'd mutiny. I underestimated her - something that I tend to do quite often....She did everything that I asked her to do. Sometimes, I had to ask her several times but for the most part, she was the perfect subject. I love the way her pictures turned out. But more than that, I loved the time that I got to spend alone with her, away from home, outside in the beautiful weather.
Here are a few sneak peeks. She wants me to do a slideshow of all the pictures...she even has the song picked out
So, once I get them edited, I'll post the slideshow.
This one makes me laugh. For some reason, she wanted to take the thumb harp with her to the beach. I agreed and something about this picture just makes me think American Gothic, the preschooler beach version.

and this one....well, I think this one is going to be the picture I put on my business cards...if I ever get around to ordering business cards
