Behold…the scariest costume I’ve ever made :)

And I mean scary on a whole lot of levels!  When Gracie started talking about wanting to be a Vampire Princess for Halloween this year, I was a bit skeptical.  She’s never been anything scary before.  But, this year, Gracie is really into the scary part of Halloween, so I caved and let her pick out the fabric and pattern for this creation.

As usual, I procrastinated making costumes.  I finished Abigail’s a couple of hours before Trunk or Treat on Wednesday.  Gracie’s was cut out, but I hadn’t sewn the first seam.  I promised Gracie that I would have her costume finished in time for downtown trick or treating on Friday night.  That turned out to be a difficult promise to keep.

On Thursday, Abigail & I spent several hours at the doctor trying to figure out what’s causing her repeated high fevers and sore throats (since she keeps ending up with negative strep tests).  The latest guess is some kind of periodic fever with swollen lymph nodes syndrome.  So, Thursday was not the most productive sewing day.

Friday morning, Abigail was still feeling pretty puny, so she spent the day on the bed watching TV and I sewed and sewed and sewed.  And I can honestly say this was the most difficult thing I have ever sewn.  The instructions were really difficult to follow and the satiny fabric was a bear to work with.  Somehow, I finished it in time for Friday night, but, I can honestly say, the sewing is horrible.  The zipper is completely uneven; the hem is atrocious; and I don’t think any part of it looks like its supposed to look.   But, Gracie is happy with it and that’s the only important thing.  Although, I think next week, I’m going to pull out an easy sewing project and get my groove back - ‘cause right now, I feel sorely lacking in my sewing skills

Here we are downtown (I really missed Abigail…we went trick or treating and then to the ballet and I know she would have loved it; luckily, Steve was able to get home in time to stay with her)

Her favorite part of the costume was being able to twirl (my favorite part was the sleeves)
