My Little Pumpkin Carver
Last weekend, the girls and I headed up to Memphis to see my sister’s family and for me to take pictures of a wonderful family (sneak peek here). We got back in town on Monday afternoon just in time for a photo session I had scheduled downtown. Steve took the girls home and one the way back from my photo session, I remembered that Gracie needed to take a pumpkin to school to carve. Yes, first graders carving their own pumpkins…pretty cool, huh? So, I stopped by Publix, hoping to find a medium-sized pumpkin for her to lug into class. Unfortunately all they had were pie-sized ones and mammoth pumpkins that looked like they’d been grown with steroids. Guess which I picked? The next morning Steve walked Gracie into school. He carried the pumpkin that I think weighed close to what Abigail does. I didn’t really think any more about it until I pulled up in car line the next afternoon. There was Gracie, holding her mammoth pumpkin. She was seriously about to buckle from the weight of it, but somehow managed to get into the van without dropping it. She was so proud of her handiwork. And rightfully so, I think!
She and Steve cleaned out they eyes and mouth a little bit more so the candlelight would shine through and here creation earned a spot on our front porch for the Halloween weekend.
